Awana

The Awana program runs from Labor Day through Memorial Day and meets at 6:45 pm on Wednesday evenings.

The Awana program has helped churches and parents worldwide raise children and youth to know, love, and serve Christ. Awana is founded on the principle of 2 Timothy 2:15 – Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed. We at PHBC desire above all to be obedient to the will of God and to always be ready to serve Him. The Awana Ministry Team takes our position very seriously and will strive to do it with our all as unto the Lord.

Awana has five main principles:

  1. Awana is centered on the gospel.
  2. Scripture memory is key.
  3. Awana is exciting and fun.
  4. Children are trained to serve.
  5. Awana is built on strong leadership.

Awana clubs:

  • Puggles: Ages 2-3 (age 3 after Aug. 31)
  • Cubbies: Ages 3-4 (age 3 before Aug. 31)
  • Sparkies: Kindergarten – 2nd grade
  • Truth & Training: 3rd – 6th grade

Each Awana night begins with all clubbers gathered for the opening ceremony. During this time, we recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the American, Christian, and Awana flags as well as the Bible. Then we have announcements and prayer before we begin our club segments. For the remainder of the evening, the club groups rotate between our three different activities.

Handbook Time: This is when a clubber recites memory verses they have learned to their leaders. Each section is recited in one sitting. Clubbers are only allowed two helps (a 1 or 2 word hint) per section.

Lesson Time: During this time, the Gospel is presented using the Bible. This is also when the plan of salvation is shared with clubbers and they are encouraged to grow spiritually.

Game Time: Fun time for all! This is when clubbers participate in age appropriate games. This helps to develop good sportsmanship and teamwork.
