January 2009

Happy New Year!  Wow, 2008 went fast.  To be quite honest, 2008 was a very challenging year for me.  This past year has brought several major changes in my “middle-aged” life.  Pull up a chair, and I’ll tell you about it.  I know God has a sense of humor, or we couldn’t laugh.

First of all, I’m having a tough time dealing with getting older, but, hey, we’re all doing it and it’s going to happen whether I like it or not.  I am just thankful that God still has me here to get older.

Next, my oldest fledging has left the nest, and is now flying on his own.  That’s been tough, but God has given us grace to deal with it.  Just when I reach the point of dealing with the first-born leaving, the second and last one will be leaving us next fall to attend college.  It’s all happening too quickly.  They’re just babies!

Health issues have been numerous this year—some serious, and some not so serious.  Anyway, for the first time in my life, I am now organizing my medication in my own pill box that sits on the kitchen cabinet.  Every morning and night I pop the lid open and swallow the contents of the little compartment, then refill it on Saturday.  Then, on the serious side, the issue with Susan’s vocal problems has really burdened both of us, especially her.  We just keep praying that God will continue taking care of her, and she will soon be singing again.

Lastly, I’ve had to just about change my whole wardrobe just to match my  (what you people call), “distinguished-looking” hair.  Come on, folks!  We all know it’s just about totally gray now.  More salt than pepper.  And to top it all off, my hair is not only turning gray, but is now receding.  Just for your information—I will NOT wear a toupee when the time comes.

I say all of that not to be complaining, but just to keep a little humor of getting older.  You all have watched me get older through the years.  I’m not any different than anyone else, and we all go through trials.  I’m just so thankful that God gives us grace and help in time of need.  God loves us, and I’m so glad He does.  I thank Him that He’s always there for me.  Have a great 2009!
